Afternoon Hype! Burgerama III! Sleep!

Holy moly mountain! Burger Records announced the lineup for their now annual Burgerama festival and it could be the heaviest one yet. I use the word heavy because legendary doomsters Sleep are all up in Burger’s business this year! There have been now confirmed rumblings of a new Sleep record for  some time now and though there’s no release date yet one can only hope/wonder if folks at Burgerama will be getting first taste of some long awaited jams. Throw in heavy hitters like Black Lips, The Dwarves and FIDLAR, not to mention the back from the dead proto punk of Death, something for the hip hop heads in the form of Kool Keith as well as what seems to be the majority of Burger Records signees and it makes for a festival that actually might be worth travelling for. No offense Coachella/Bonnaroo. Full band listings and some classic Sleep below…

New Year’s Hype! The Kinks!

It was fifty years ago today that one of rock’s most iconic rock bands performed live for the first time at the Lotus House Restaurant in London, England, furthering strengthening the UK’s dominance of popular music at the time. And I bet you that was a killer New Years party. Here are a couple fitting tracks for this New Year’s Eve, and I’d like to personally wish all of you the best in hopes for a wonderful 2014. Be safe tonight, take care of each other and leave two aspirin on your bedside table with a glass of water before you go out. You’ll thank yourself later. Happy New Year!

Morning Hype! New Black Lips!

I’m a big fan of waking up to new music notifications in the ‘ol inbox. Especially when it’s a band that I favor the way I favor the Black Lips. The new record was announced earlier this year with a March release date along with a promise of “country tinged Southern rock” and judging by this first track they weren’t fucking around. Check it out below courtesy of Vice Records.

Song Of The Day: Funkadelic – Maggot Brain

“Mother earth is pregnant for the third time/For ya’ll have knocked her up/I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe/I was not offended/For I knew I had to rise above it all/Or drown in my own shit.”

Unbridled genius right here. According to main man George Clinton, this solo was recorded by Eddie Hazel in one take. They later mixed out the rhythm section that originally played because the solo ruled so hard. Damn.

New Tunes: Natural Child – Saturday Night Blues

Yeeeessssssss! The first single from the highly anticipated follow up to Natural Child’s Hard in Heaven(Brick Background’s number one album of 2012!) is here and I’ve already gotten up to find a beer to chase the first listen with. Saturday Night Blues is the track and Dancin’ With Wolves is the album, coming out on Burger Records Feb 25th. You can just tell you’re gonna be hootin and hollerin, arms around shoulders with someone you’ve never met before when you see the Nashvillians play this lil ditty live. And you will go see them live, if you know what’s good for you. The studio version is below, along with a video of the live version I posted of the same track a while back. Enjoy!

New Tunes: Natural Child – Don’t Wake The Baby

Because of course they would write a song about trying to have sex once you have a family. Natural Child’s latest offering is heavy on the country, light on the garage rock which, after seeing them the last two times they came through town, doesn’t surprise me a bit. You can take the boys out of Nashville but….well, you get the picture. This track is from a split 7″ they have coming out with Guantanamo Baywatch in early December on Suicide Squeeze Records. There’s also talk of a new full length from the Nashvillians, called Dancin’ With Wolves, and a track has already leaked from that as well.

Just try and keep up with them! Natural Child’s Facebook page here.

Morning Hype! BLKTOP Project!

What happens when you put a bunch of insanely talented musicians that also happen to be some of the most legendary professional skateboarders of all time into a room together with a bunch of instruments? This. This is what happens. And it is glorious. Open your blinds, let the sun shine in and the music will make you smile. Guaranteed.
