What a skull crushing two words to wake up to! I actually had to shake the cobwebs out of my head and double check my calendar to make sure it wasn’t April Fools Day. But, nope! For the first time in over 30 years, Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein are getting together and playing this year’s incarnations of Riot Fest in both Denver and Chicago. I don’t know how Riot Fest pulled this one out of their ass but hot damn, they actually did it and now they’re hosting the biggest Ghouls Night Out of the year. As for praying for more dates, you can try God or The Devil Himself. Don’t think it really matters at this point. Thank you, Riot Fest!
This one caught me right off guard. After years of shooting down any notion of ever reuniting, Tim Armstrong of Operation Ivy(and more famously Rancid) has just released a new track with estranged original Op Ivy singer Jesse Michaels. I’ve read conflicting reports about what Michaels has been doing with his time since the the band broke up in 1989 due to major label pressures, not to mention the reportedly close-mindedness of the Bay Area scene with which they were affiliated.(I’m looking at you Gilman St. locals. Meanies.) Michaels may have become a Buddhist Monk, a missionary, a painter or a homeless drug addict but no mind now. It would appear that he’s starting to get the music itch again, and while worse things have definitely happened you have to wonder if a whole new album of Op Ivy is something the world actually needs as opposed to just craves. I can tell you one thing though, you can bet the reunion junkies that put on Coachella every year are already on their knees licking their lips…
