New Old Tunes: Pink Mountaintops – Single Life

While I’ve definitely been tooting the horn for L.A. throwback hardcore band Obliterations lately, lead guitarist Stephen Mcbean has taken some time away from tearing up living rooms to tour with Destroyer under his Pink Mountaintops moniker, which lead to me to start digging around for some lesser known jams from the sometimes one man recording band and I came up on a couple gems. The first, or A-side if you will, is called “Single Life” and trumpets the joys of livin’ hard while hearkening back to Iggy’s Lust for Life/Nightclubbin’ days. The accompanying B-side is a beautiful ballad titled “My Best Friend” that could’ve very easily been an A-side or lead single. Stephen McBean is a fantastic songwriter and a ninja at setting whatever mood it is he’s going for. Hoping for some new Black Mountain/Pink Mountaintops in the near future but for now….
