With a more than earnest nod to the 70’s New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Philadelphia’s own Serpent Throne have been releasing their take on classic instrumental metal since 2005, and with new album Brother Lucifer right around the corner, are showing signs that it’s time to break out from the confines of the American Northeast and begin the necessary process of global domination. With guitarists Don Argott and Demian Fenton trading epic riffs with concrete power chords it’s easy to forget the void in vocals that’s too easily expected, and a rock solid rhythm section including bassist Colin Smith and Demian’s brother Sean-Paul Fenton on drums will leave more than one ulcerated neck in its dust when the aforementioned domination is in full swing. Not to be missed live, the CD release party is in Philly this Saturday night at Long In The Tooth Records in celebration of both Brother Lucifer and International Record Store Day. There’s something else being celebrated that day but I can’t for my life remember what it is….
